Our History

A legacy of love, courage, and community.

Our Story

Camelot for Children was founded in 1985 as a place of hope, joy, and connection for children living with serious medical conditions. What began as a simple gathering space has since touched the lives of thousands of children diagnosed with cancer, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other life-changing illnesses.

A Vision of Support and Belonging

A Vision of Support and Belonging

Co-founders Patricia Mullin and Kostas Kalogeropoulos saw the need for more than just medical care. They envisioned a haven where children and families could come together, find friendship, and experience the magic of simply being a kid. That dream came to life in 1987, when Camelot opened its doors to just 20 children—quickly growing into a vibrant, supportive community of over 100.

My children had dealt with severe illness with great courage. They were the inspiration for Camelot for Children, which provides a meeting place for ill children and their families for the purpose of providing friendship and support.

Built by the Community, for the Community

Built by the Community, for the Community

The original Camelot house on Emmaus Avenue in Allentown was lovingly remodeled and furnished by dedicated volunteers who donated their time, skills, and hearts. That same spirit of generosity continues today, with support from across the Lehigh Valley helping Camelot grow into a vital part of the community.

Camelot’s ten-acre campus now features:

  • Yeager Fuel’s Splash Pad
  • Abby’s Attic Outdoor Playhouse
  • The Roger Worman Memorial Education Room
  • The American Bank Camelot Court
  • Multiple accessible classrooms and gathering spaces

A Legacy of Impact

In 2017, that sense of community was stronger than ever when staff, volunteers, and local students rallied to host one of the most successful summer camps in Camelot’s history.

Those connections were never stronger than in June of 2017, when the Camelot Board, the staff, and volunteers from surrounding high schools came together to support Camelot and host a tremendously successful summer camp.
